Stop Guessing What Is Wrong With Your Drain Line

A sewer camera is a waterproof video head on a flexible rod that we push the full length of your drain or sewer line. It shows the inside of the pipe in real time - cracks, offsets, root intrusion, grease buildup, bellied sections holding standing water, and the exact point where a blockage sits. We record the footage and walk you through it, so a repair recommendation is something you can see rather than something you have to take on faith.

Three situations make an inspection worth the money. The first is buying a home, especially anywhere in Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, or El Cerrito where original clay laterals are common; a failed sewer line is a five-figure problem that a standard home inspection does not cover. The second is a clog that keeps coming back after snaking, which almost always means something structural rather than something soft. The third is before a remodel or an addition, when finding a bad pipe afterwards means opening up finished work.

We also use the camera to locate the line. The inspection head carries a transmitter that lets us mark the depth and position of the pipe from the surface, which matters when a repair has to be planned around a driveway, a mature tree, or a foundation.

What the Footage Tells You

Most problems fall into a small number of categories, and each points to a different fix. Roots entering at a joint often mean the pipe is otherwise sound and a spot repair plus jetting will do. A crushed or offset section means the pipe has moved and needs replacing at that point. A belly - a sagging run holding water - will keep catching solids no matter how often it is cleared, and only re-grading the line solves it. Heavy grease coating the walls is not a structural problem at all; hydro jetting restores the full diameter.

Knowing which of these you have is the difference between a targeted repair and paying repeatedly for cleanings that were never going to hold. You get the footage, a plain explanation of what it shows, and a written flat-rate price for whichever option you choose.

Frequently Asked Questions

In the older parts of the East Bay, it is one of the best-value inspections available. Standard home inspections do not put a camera down the sewer line, and a failed lateral is one of the most expensive surprises a new owner can inherit.

Yes. We record the inspection and go through it with you, and the footage can also support a sewer lateral compliance submission or a negotiation during a property sale.

Yes. The camera head transmits its position, so we can mark the depth and location of a defect on the surface before any digging is planned.

Sometimes. If the line is completely blocked we may need to clear it first to get the camera through, and we will tell you before doing that rather than adding it to the bill afterwards.
